so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens.
— William Carlos Williams
Inspired by William Carlos Williams' poem "The Red Wheelbarrow",
the photos explore everyday life in Southwest China (most of them were taken in Yunnan province). Just as in Williams’ poems, the pictures focus on
the local, on everyday objects and people in their familiar surroundings. The uniqueness and materiality of everyday reality reveals itself to the beholder. There is nothing transcendental behind or beyond, but in the things themselves, their light and substance. They suggest their own organization and interpretation within sensual reality as it unfolds.
